If you use the wrong transitional device at some point in your paper, readers may become confused about the logical connections between the ideas you present. After reading the text through a few times, they may be able to work out what you mean, but it will slow them down, and they may remain somewhat confused about your exact intention. In addition, they might lose trust in the research, because they can no longer be sure whether your reasoning was logical or not — they might assume that you were confused or made an error in your reasoning.
